Police arrested a man early Friday after they questioned him in connection with a San Diego robbery and found $700 stuffed in his mouth, a police spokesman said.
About 8 a.m., a man approached an employee of an Imperial Beach luggage repair and sales shop at 1837 5th Ave. and asked him for a job, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
When the employee replied that there were no openings, David A. Brumetta, 39--described as a transient from Wilmington, Mass.--allegedly began punching the employee, then took his wallet holding $700 in cash, Robinson said.
San Diego police questioned Brumetta when they caught him a few blocks away from the shop. They noticed he had a slight speech impediment, Robinson said, and found $20, $50 and $100 bills stuffed in his mouth.
Brumetta was taken to County Jail downtown and is being held on $5,000 bail, a jail clerk said.
