A two-car collision on the westbound lanes of California 78 Thursday left two drivers dead and two passengers injured, the California Highway Patrol reported.
A vehicle driven by Ricky Harrison, 24, a Camp Pendleton Marine, crossed the center divider east of the Melrose Drive exit at 1:10 a.m. and crashed head-on into a westbound vehicle driven by Maria Flores, 21, of Carlsbad, CHP spokeswoman Kim Hastings said. Both drivers were killed.
The two injured passengers were taken to Palomar Memorial Hospital in Escondido, Hastings said.
John Reams, 22, also a Marine, was in critical condition Thursday night, a hospital spokeswoman said. Terri Bryant, who was traveling with the Flores, was treated and released. No further information was available on Bryant.
