In a move that will have “little or no effect” on employment in San Diego, General Dynamics will shift production of certain aviation products to a manufacturing plant in Tijuana, General Dynamics spokesman Jack Isabel said.
“This action is one of several initiatives the company is taking to increase its competitiveness in the defense industry,” Isabel said. “The maquiladora operation will build up at the rate of four or five persons a week next year and then stabilize at 120 employees.”
The Tijuana plant will manufacture and test cables and harnesses used in General Dynamics aircraft. The move is one of several cost-cutting efforts the company is conducting throughout the country, according to a recent memo sent to employees in San Diego.
