Light Brigade to Mark Bridge Anniversary
At sunset on Sunday, about 15,000 people will light little flashlights and the Vincent Thomas Bridge will come alive.
The event marks the 25th anniversary of the span that links San Pedro and Terminal Island, and a daylong celebration will culminate with the firing of cannons from yachts below the bridge, illumination of two giant spotlights and the flashlight flicker that will transform the bridge into a fairyland thoroughfare.
The affair is a fund-raiser for the permanent lighting of the bridge cables, and the walk-across will cost $15 for flashlight and commemorative T-shirt; $5 for flashlight alone.
The day’s events will include a classic-car tour, parades, a yacht regatta and an antique-airplane fly-over.
