NHL Roundup : Nordiques Rout Penguins, 6-2; Lemieux Sidelined by Injury

Walt Poddubny scored 3 goals and added 2 assists Thursday night as the Quebec Nordiques defeated the Penguins, 6-2, in a game that Penguin star Mario Lemieux, the NHL’s leading scorer with 18 goals and 41 points, was forced to leave after the second period because of a sprained wrist. X-rays showed no break.
Poddubny, scored once in each period and set up Michel Goulet’s 2 third-period power-play goals for the Nordiques, who had lost 5 of their last 6 games. The defeat was the Penguins’ first at home.
Vancouver 5, Philadelphia 2--Barry Pederson scored 2 goals at Philadelphia as the Canucks handed the Flyers their seventh loss in nine games to move into a 3-way tie for second place in the Smythe Division. Vancouver scored 3 goals on just 6 shots in the third period.
Chicago 4, Minnesota 1--Steve Thomas had a goal and an assist, and goaltender Darren Pang stopped 23 shots to lead the Blackhawks over the North Stars at Chicago.
Winnipeg 3, New Jersey 3--Andrew McBain scored with 7:49 left in the third period at East Rutherford, N.J., to give the Jets a tie and improve their record to 5-0-2 against the Devils in their last 7 meetings over 3 seasons.
Hartford 5, Boston 3--Sylvain Turgeon scored on the Whalers’ first 2 shots in the opening 4:42, and Jody Hull made it 3-0 on their fourth shot as Hartford ended the Bruins’ 8-game unbeaten streak at Boston.
Calgary 6, St. Louis 1--Colin Patterson scored twice, and Al MacInnis and Joe Mullen scored first-period goals to lead the Smythe Division-leading Flames past the Blues at Calgary.
