Orange County reserve sheriff’s deputies spent more than 8 hours Tuesday and Wednesday searching for a missing 12-year-old girl--only to have the search end when she called to say she had spent the night with a friend.
Late Wednesday, investigators had not yet interviewed the girl, Jennifer Lynn Lillie of Laguna Niguel, to determine why she left without telling her parents, Sheriff’s Lt. Richard J. Olson said.
“Our main concern is that she’s safe,” Olson said. “We had a lot of people working the thing, a lot of reserve deputies we pulled in from their regular jobs.”
Jennifer had gone to the supermarket with her 15-year-old sister about noon Tuesday, Olson said. Jennifer waited outside the store while her sister went in, but when the sister came out, Jennifer was gone, he said.
