El Camino Real’s Lofton Makes Decision to Attend Utah State

El Camino Real High swingman Brent Lofton, the first junior in school history to be named to an All-City Section team, has verbally committed to attend Utah State.
Lofton led the team in scoring and rebounding last season, averaging 21.6 points and 11.7 rebounds. He shot 57% (171 of 298) from the field and was selected All-Valley by The Times.
Lofton said that he was impressed by the Utah State coaching staff and Logan campus, which he visited 1 1/2 months ago.
“It seemed like a nice place to be,” said Lofton, 6 feet, 4 1/2 inches and 185 pounds. “They were very friendly. They seemed more like a family to me than a group of coaches.”
Lofton, 16, has played at both guard and forward for the Conquistadores, who are among the favorites to contend for the City 3-A Division title after dropping from the 4-A after last season. Lofton said he probably will play both positions in college and in high school this season.
The NCAA early signing period begins Nov. 9, when high school seniors may sign national letters of intent.
