The Basque guerrilla group ETA released an industrialist after holding him captive for more than eight months in Spain’s longest political kidnaping, police said. Emiliano Revilla, 60, a sausage manufacturer and real estate tycoon, walked to his home in Madrid after being set free by ETA (Basque Homeland and Freedom), which has been fighting since 1968 for independence for three Spanish provinces near the French border. It was not clear whether Revilla’s family had succeeded in paying a ransom, although Madrid papers widely reported that $9.4 million was handed over to the separatist group. French police earlier foiled two attempts at paying ransom.
