4 Who Died in Fiery Car Crash Identified
The Los Angeles County coroner’s office Sunday released the names of four 17-year-olds who died Friday night in a fiery Santa Monica car crash.
Russell Kantor of Santa Monica, Lisa Goldberg of West Los Angeles and Reid Mangels and Calvin Hoftyzer, both of Pacific Palisades, died about 10:45 p.m. on San Vicente Boulevard near 11th Street, Santa Monica police said.
Kantor was the son of Mickey Kantor, Democratic Party activist and spokesman for Occidental Oil Corp.’s Proposition P, the proposal to drill for oil in Pacific Palisades.
Palisades High School Principal Gerald Dodd said seniors Kantor, Goldberg and Hoftyzer, a member of the school swim team, were “all good students.†The name of Mangels’ high school was not immediately available.
