It’s back to the courtroom for actor-racer-entrepreneur Paul Newman. A Connecticut state Appellate Court has refused to dismiss delicatessen owner Julius Gold’s lawsuit against Newman and two partners over profits generated by Newman’s salad dressing. Gold claims in the lawsuit that the three men reneged on a promise to share with him the profits from “Newman’s Own†salad dressing and several other food items. A trial ended in mistrial June 23 because jurors had inadvertently been given material ruled inadmissible. A second trial is scheduled for this week in Bridgeport Superior Court. Gold says he helped develop and market the dressing and was promised 8% ownership of two corporations started from the food ventures. Newman disputes Gold’s claims.
