Southland Roundup : Cal Poly SLO Gets Kick and Ties UC Davis, 17-17
Dan Eastman kicked a 21-yard field goal with 8 seconds left and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo got a 17-17 tie with UC Davis, ranked No. 17 in NCAA Division II, Saturday at Davis.
UC Davis (5-2-1) took a 21-18 lead with 3:37 left when quarterback Mike Quinn threw a 17-yard scoring pass to flanker Mike Sellar.
Cal Poly is 4-3-1.
Menlo 17, Occidental 6--Scott De Silva and Greg Clark combined to hit 18 of 37 passes for 245 yards for 2 touchdowns and the Oaks downed the Tigers (6-2) at Menlo Park.
Mike Kahawai caught 10 passes for 115 yards for Menlo (6-2).
Azusa Pacific 31, UC Santa Barbara 18--Brian Hunt passed for 127 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for a score with 1 minute left as the Cougars beat the Gauchos at Azusa.
Azusa (5-1) rallied after UCSB’s Todd Reynolds kicked field goals of 34, 41 and 30 to give UCSB (4-4) an 18-17 lead with 8:01 left.
So. Utah 24, Cal Lutheran 21--Calvin Minefee ran for 171 yards and a 7-yard touchdown with 21 seconds left to beat the Kingsmen at Cedar City, Utah.
Dean Henderson scored on a 10-yard run to give the Kingsmen (2-6) a 21-10 lead before the Thunderbirds (4-5) rallied.
Whittier 20, Pomona-Pitzer 14--Mike Haney passed for a touchdown and ran for another, to lead the Poets (3-1, 3-5) past the Sagehens (1-6) in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Pomona.
Redlands 29, Claremont-Mudd 6--Ruffin Patterson rushed for 146 yards and touchdowns of 78 and 30 yards and the Bulldogs downed the Stags at Redlands.
Reed Pangborn scored on a 1-yard run for the Stags (0-7).
Santa Clara 31, CS Northridge 27--John St. Jacques threw 4 scoring passes and the Broncos downed the Matadors in a Western Football Conference game at Santa Clara.
