Prep Roundup : Capistrano Valley Wins Tennis Showdown

The Capistrano Valley High School girls’ tennis team moved into first place at the halfway point of the South Coast League season with a 12-6 victory over Dana Hills Thursday at Dana Hills.

Michelle Foster, Page Bartelt, and Allison Light remained undefeated in league play. Foster won, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, Bartelt won, 6-3, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles and Light won, 6-3, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles.

Capistrano Valley is 11-1 overall and 5-0 in league play. Dana Hills is 4-1 in league play.

In Century League girls’ tennis:

Canyon 12, Foothill 6--Lisa Alipaz and Erika Wrolstad swept singles matches to lead host Canyon (10-0, 3-0). The Comanches’ doubles team of Gaby Terjung and Phoung Nguyen also swept.

In Empire League girls’ tennis:

Katella 12, Cypress 6--Lynn Vonusa swept, 6-3, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles to lead host Katella. The No. 1 doubles team of Margaret Harker and Christi Gerdes also swept, 6-0, 6-3, 6-3.

Los Alamitos 10, Esperanza 8--Jennifer Shoudt won 2 of 3 singles’ sets to lead Los Alamitos at Esperanza. Kassi Ludahl, the Aztecs’ No. 1 singles player, swept her sets to remained undefeated in league (12-0). Esperanza is 5-6 overall and 1-5 in league.

In Sea View League girls’ tennis:

Corona del Mar 13, Estancia 5--Keri Phebus remained undefeated this season as she swept her singles sets, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, to lead host Corona del Mar (12-0, 4-0). Phebus is 33-0.

In Sunset League girls’ tennis:

Fountain Valley 14, Marina 4--Junior Tracy Crisell swept her sets at No. 1 singles but Marina won only 1 other set at home. Crisell is 15-0 after the first round of league play.

Huntington Beach 17, Westminster 1--Nicole Wolff and Jennifer Crost won their doubles sets, 6-1, 6-3, 6-1, to lead Huntington Beach (7-11, 2-3) at Westminster.

In Empire League girls’ volleyball:

Esperanza 3, Los Amaitos 0--Heidi Andersen had 24 assists, as host Esperanza (7-1, 4-0) swept, 15-2, 15-8, 15-6.

In Freeway League girls’ volleyball:

La Habra 3, Fullerton 0--Jana Nelson had 17 blocks, as host La Habra (9-4, 2-2) swept, 15-7, 15-7, 15-11.

In Sunset League girls’ volleyball:

Edison 3, Ocean View 0--Joni Lee had 7 kills as Edison swept, 15-3, 16-14, 15-9, at Ocean View.
