Deukmejian Signs Bills
I want to express my disgust with Deukmejian, and the conservative mentality he represents, for vetoing the bill that would have protected people who test HIV positive, as well as for signing a bill that would require mandatory HIV testing of selected individuals. As a gay Republican, who is HIV positive, I am outraged by this insensitive and careless act when even the President’s commission urges the opposite position on both issues.
The governor should know that at least 30% of all gays in California are Republican, and that we will not let him, or other conservatives, push us around anymore.
I challenge my party to stand up for gay Republicans and all affected by all of this. I want to hear George Bush and Sen. Pete Wilson (R.-Calif.) vocally admonish Deukmejian for his positions.
