Denmark’s first national commercial television station was officially opened on Monday, breaking the monopoly of the existing national channel that is financed through government-imposed license fees. The new station, called TV 2 and based at Odense in central Denmark, will be two-thirds financed by advertisements and one-third by license fees. Danish TV 2 started broadcasting unofficially on Saturday, with 15 minutes of advertising a day and some six hours of programs.
