Bill Rodgers broke the world masters division record for the 10-kilometer run as he won the Heartland Hustle race Saturday at Davenport, Iowa.
Rodgers, 40, of Sherborn, Mass., is a four-time winner of both the Boston and New York marathons. He covered the flat course in downtown Davenport in 29 minutes 47.1 seconds. The previous U.S. and world masters marks were 29:57 and 29:50, respectively.
Priscilla Welch, a former British Olympian who trains in Boulder, Colo., won the women’s race for the second straight year in 34:28, finishing 6 seconds ahead of Charlotte Thomas of San Diego.
