Estancia High School fumbled 10 times, resulting in losses of more than 50 yards and 2 possessions against Los Amigos Friday at Garden Grove High. Somehow, Estancia managed to win, 17-7.
The Lobos weren’t about to be outdone in the turnover duel, as they lost two fumbles and quarterback Joe Romero had two passes intercepted. Three of Los Amigos’ giveaways occurred in the second quarter, and set up all of Estancia’s points.
After Art Carrido picked off a pass by Romero for the first time, Eagle halfback Josh Wojtkiewicz took a pitchout around left end for a 26-yard touchdown run.
Later in the period, the Eagles intercepted Romero for the second time, which led to Wojtkiewicz’s second touchdown, a 1-yard plunge off tackle. Wojtkiewicz carried 17 times for 102 yards and fumbled once.
