About 30 lawsuits remain unresolved despite the Justice Department clearing Philadelphia Mayor W. Wilson Goode and other city officials of any crimes in the May, 1985, MOVE catastrophe. Philadelphia’s Chief Deputy City Solicitor Toby Oxholm said 19 civil cases are pending in federal court and about another 10 are still in state court. All of the cases are seeking monetary damages against the city for its part in the deaths of five children and six adult MOVE members who perished in a fire May 13, 1985.
