Proposition 84
Proposition 84 will start to rebuild our state’s low-income housing stock. This measure authorizes the state to sell $300 million in general obligation bonds to help local groups provide shelter and housing for the homeless, elderly, handicapped and young families. It includes provisions to assist persons to find jobs and to provide child-care services. The funds will be offered in the form of deferred-payment loans which will assure the continued use of the building for low-income people.
During the last 20 years there has been a devastating reduction in low-income housing. This measure will produce 33,500 emergency shelter beds; 5,000 homeownership units; 8,700 new rental units, and 15,000 rehabilitated rental units.
Proposition 84 allows California to maintain its status as a civilized society doing its best to assist those in need.
