NBC isn’t the only network that will deal with a scheduling problem over the upcoming presidential debates. Several days after NBC management decided to air the debate after all (in lieu of Summer Olympics coverage), ABC is now facing a similar sports-vs.-politics problem, the Washington Post reported Tuesday. On the night of Oct. 5, the vice-presidential debate between Sen. Dan Quayle (R-Ind.) and Sen. Lloyd Bentsen (D-Tex.) is scheduled to collide head-on with ABC’s coverage of the second game of the American League baseball playoffs. There’s another possible conflict on Oct. 13: If the playoffs go to a seventh game, and if the debate commission decides to air the second presidential debate that night, ABC executives will face another dilemma.
