The Seattle Seahawks placed Dave Krieg on injured reserve after Coach Chuck Knox said his starting quarterback will be sidelined from six to eight weeks because of a separated right shoulder.
The Seahawks added veteran quarterback Bruce Mathison, who was with the team last season and in its training camp, to the 47-man roster to take Krieg’s place.
Krieg was injured in the fourth quarter of the Seahawks’ 17-6 loss in San Diego, when he was hit by defensive line end Lee Williams.
Knox said that Jeff Kemp, Krieg’s backup, will be the starter and will be backed up by rookie Kelly Stouffer, who has been inactive in the first three games.
