Charity Doings

I read Isobel Silden’s informative article about celebrity sports tournaments with interest (“Doin’ It for Charity (and P.R. and Gifts”), Sept. 11).
For the record, however, I’m afraid she was misinformed about Wendell Niles Jr. In addition to the Monte Carlo Tennis Tournament, he does many of the most prestigious events in the world, including a charity tournament for Prince Charles and the Duchess of York in England; another for Nancy Reagan’s Drug Prevention Program at the White House and numerous others in Florida, California and Mexico.
Niles also conceived and put on the first such celebrity tournament in the Bahamas at Paradise Island back in 1961.
