Four Sunny Hills High School players rushed for touchdowns as the Lancers defeated LeZerte of Edmonton, Canada, 28-6, Friday at Spaulding Stadium.
Sunny Hills rushed for 218 yards and completely dominated the Voyageurs until the final 4 minutes of the game. LeZerte had its own problems between quarterback and center on snaps, fumbling the ball six times.
“It wasn’t necessarily anything that Sunny Hills did. We just made too many mental mistakes,” LeZerte Coach Bo Jereniuk said. “I’m sure the film will show we also missed a lot of tackles.”
Sunny Hills scored on its first possession, driving 65 yards before Jon Beuerlein went over from the one-yard line with 5:28 left in the first quarter.
On the first play from scrimmage in the second quarter, Ken Overby ran over from two yards out. Overby led the Lancers in rushing with 59 yards in 9 first-half carries.
Sunny Hills scored touchdowns on one-yard runs by Brian Pizula late in the first half and David Wilde midway through the third quarter.
LeZerte scored its only touchdown with 3 seconds left in the game on a 31-yard run by Efram Moses. Moses was LeZerte’s leading rusher with 47 yards in 4 carries.
Sunny Hills improved its record to 1-1. It was LeZerte’s first game of the season.
