Local News in Brief : Driver Faces Murder Charge in Fatal Crash

Asuspected drunk driver who police said ran from the scene after crashing into a truck in Van Nuys, killing a passenger in his car, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of murder.
Fernando Gutierrez, 30, of Sun Valley, was being held without bail at the Van Nuys jail after being arrested at his home after the accident in which Armando Castro Alvares, 31, of North Hollywood was killed.
Police said Gutierrez is suspected of having been drunk when he crashed his car into the back of a truck parked on the north side of Fulton Avenue near Hart Street about 1 a.m. After the accident, police said, Gutierrez jumped from the car and ran, leaving behind Alvares, who had been fatally injured.
Gutierrez was identified as the owner of the car through the license and was arrested a short time later, police said.
