Three firefighters suffered heat exhaustion while battling a blaze at a condominium complex Sunday night, the Solana Beach Fire Department said.
Capt. Stuart Henrix and firefighter Larry Reigel were treated and released at Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas after being overcome while fighting a fire in three condominium units in the 600 block of South Sierra Avenue. An unidentified firefighter from San Diego also was treated and released at the hospital.
Solana Beach Fire Chief David Holmerud said Monday that the three-alarm fire began about 9:45 p.m. Sunday. The fire engulfed one structure and caused some damage to two nearby units. Damage was estimated at $500,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Holmerud said.
