Willie Banks of the United States won the triple jump in the Nambu Chuhei Memorial track and field meet at Sapporo, Japan, with a leap of 54 feet 7 inches, far below his world record of 58-11 1/2.
American Mike Powell took the long jump at 27-8. Wendy Brown, also of the United States, won three events. She was clocked in 14.34 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and won the triple jump at 43-3 3/4 and the long jump at 20-11 3/4.
