TV Station Reports Agreement Reached on Schroeder Deal

KCBS-TV said Friday night that the Raiders and the Washington Redskins have reached tentative agreement on a deal for quarterback Jay Schroeder, and that it will be announced next week.

No Raider official could be reached for comment on the report by Keith Olbermann. In Washington, Redskin General Manager Bobby Beathard denied a deal had been made.

Schroeder lost the starting job to Doug Williams last season and has asked to be traded. The Raiders and the Redskins have been talking about a deal for several weeks.

The Raiders were reported as offering Tim Brown plus a No. 2 pick, while the Redskins were asking for tackle Jim Lachey plus a No. 1. There had been earlier speculation about a three-way deal involving the Falcons and star guard Bill Fralic, and Friday night those reports started circulating once more.

Meanwhile, the Raiders are still set to open the season Sunday at the Coliseum with Steve Beuerlein making his first pro start against the San Diego Chargers.
