Schwartz Wins the Scratch Main Event at Weekly Speedway Racing Program

Bobby Schwartz of Costa Mesa won the four-lap scratch main event Friday in front of 4,750 Friday in the weekly speedway program at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.
Jim Sisemore of Woodland was second and Alan Christian of Murietta was third. Greg Hancock, a senior at Edison High School, won the eight-lap handicap main event.
Speedway motorcyclist Sam Ermolenko of Cypress is the only U. S. rider among the 16-man field in the World Championship final scheduled tonight in Vojens, Denmark.
Ermolenko, 27, is making his fourth consecutive appearance in the world championship race. He finished third in 1985 and 1987. He is the only American to qualify for four consecutive world championship races.
