Cal State Fullerton Opens Its Season Tonight at Southwestern Louisiana
LAFAYETTE, La. — Cal State Fullerton opens its football season tonight against Southwestern Louisiana at 5 p.m., PDT, at Cajun Field.
Fullerton, which finished 6-6 last season, has not won a season-opening game since 1984. Southwestern Louisiana, which had a 6-5 record last year, has not won its opener since 1982.
Fullerton quarterback Dan Speltz, a transfer who led El Camino College to an undefeated season last year, will be making his first start in a Division I game. Southwestern Louisiana, which is expected to start two freshmen and two sophomores in the offensive line, has an experienced quarterback in Brian Mitchell, who passed for 1,100 yards last season and rushed for another 856.
