Joe Bark, a fireman from Redondo Beach, and Jim Mollica, a Los Angeles County lifeguard, were the top finishers in the seventh annual Catalina Island-to-Manhattan Beach Paddle Board Marathon last Sunday. Bark, 28, won the unlimited board size division in 6 hours, 11 minutes and 51 seconds. In the stock class, Mollica, 48, won in 7:2.34. Thirty-three paddlers began the 6 a.m. race and 27 finished, dodging five ships, blue sharks and a school of pilot whales.
Torrance resident Gilbert Di Santo, who was having an off-night in his bowling league last week, got hot in the third game and rolled a 300. His 12 straight strikes came on lanes 21 and 22 at Palos Verdes Bowl. The 38-year-old Di Santo’s game was certified with the American Bowling Congress.
