Maryland’s Rudy Archer Is Ineligible
COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Guard Rudy Archer, who started all 31 games for Maryland last year as a junior, has been ruled academically ineligible for the 1988-89 basketball season, the university announced Thursday.
Archer, who transferred to Maryland from Allegany Community College before last season, averaged 12.7 points and 5.5 assists for the Terrapins, who reached the second round of the NCAA tournament.
“Rudy’s absence will be a blow both on and off the court, but right now his welfare is my utmost concern,” said Coach Bob Wade in a prepared statement. “I think the important thing is that he still focused on getting his degree.
