Testing Sinks Navy Lifeboats
United Press International
PITTSBURGH — Spot testing of the Navy’s MK-6 inflatable lifeboats resulted in a “100% failure rate,” The Pittsburgh Press reported today.
The test results raised new concerns about the rubberized lifeboats, which are used on virtually every Navy ship, the newspaper said. Rubber Crafters Inc., of Grantsville, W.Va., received $17,355,000 in Navy contracts to produce the lifeboats between 1984 and last year.
