Local News in Brief : Irvine : Man Critically Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash
A hit-and-run crash on the San Diego Freeway left a 19-year-old Irvine man with critical injuries, the California Highway Patrol reported Thursday.
Lawrence Ray Singer was a passenger in a car that overturned several times in the crash, CHP spokesman Keith Thornhill said. The car, driven by Christa Jeanne Lauer, 18, of Costa Mesa, was northbound on the San Diego Freeway near Sand Canyon Road shortly before midnight Wednesday when struck by another car that had approached from the rear “at a high rate of speed” and veered left into it. Lauer lost control, ran off the road and overturned, Thornhill said, and Singer was trapped inside the car.
Singer was reported in critical condition with internal injuries at Mission Community Hospital. Lauer was reported in stable condition in the same hospital.
The driver of other car did not stop, Thornhill said. Investigators believe the car was a white compact, possibly a Chevrolet Chevette, he said.
The CHP asks that anyone who may have seen the accident or the other vehicle call Officer Richard Ferrola at (714) 547-8311.
