5 Killed, 52 Hurt as Austria Trains Collide

VIENNA — Two trains collided Monday in western Austria near the West German border, killing five people and injuring 52, authorities said.
Human error probably caused the accident, the worst in Austria in 17 years, said Heinrich Uebleis, general director of the Austrian Railroad Authority.
The accident occurred just after noon on an overpass outside the Wolfurt station in the western province of Vorarlberg.
It involved a train en route to West Germany from Vienna and an express train headed for Innsbruck from the German town of Lindau.
