Kremlin Hawks No Match for ‘Raiders’

MOSCOW — Kremlin hawks--the kind with feathers, not uniforms--are failing in their desperate mission to protect the heart of Soviet power from the ravages of the “gray raiders.”
The newspaper Moskovskaya Pravda reported Saturday that five hawks are protecting the Kremlin grounds against invading ravens.
The ravens, called “gray raiders,” are blamed for damaging the gold leaf on the Kremlin’s onion domes and ravaging flower beds.
It said the hawks managed to kill 5,000 ravens a year but have been unable to eliminate the scourge.
