A torn hamstring, and not preoccupation with football, is the reason for Bo Jackson’s second-half slump, according to General Manager John Schuerholz of the Kansas City Royals.
Jackson, who will join the Raiders when the baseball season is over, has batted .192 since May 31, when he tore a hamstring and was sidelined for more than a month.
“That’s absolutely absurd,” Schuerholz said of speculation that Jackson had since turned his thoughts to football. “I think it’s an unfair criticism of Bo to say his mind has wandered. He tore up a hamstring, that’s all.
Jackson, who hit .309 with 9 home runs, 30 RBIs and 14 stolen bases before the injury, has 11 homers, 24 RBIs and 8 stolen bases since then. Overall, Jackson is hitting .251.
