PBS’ ‘Rumpole’ Back in Emmy Race--as a Drama

PBS’ “Rumpole of the Bailey” is back in the running for an Emmy, but in another category, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced Friday.
When Emmy nominations were announced July 28, “Rumpole” was listed as a contender in the outstanding miniseries category. But on Aug. 9, the academy said “Rumpole” was disqualified because it had incorrectly been entered as a miniseries. ABC’s “The Bourne Identity” took its place in the nominations.
Now, the academy reports that “Rumpole’s” producers were incorrectly advised on the category to enter and thus the six-part series, aired on PBS’ “Mystery,” has been entered as a drama.
It is up against “Beauty and the Beast,” “L.A. Law,” “St. Elsewhere” and “thirtysomething” for outstanding drama series.
Emmy winners will be announced at the 40th annual award ceremonies Aug. 28.
