Engineered Yarns Inc. has won a $1.5-million contract to help build a yarn-coating and plastics-compounding facility in China. The Coventry, R.I., company signed the deal in mid-March with the Tianjin Branch of the China National Machinery & Equipment Importing & Exporting Corp.
The $7-million facility will be built in Tianjin, China, and be used to make vinyl-coated fiberglass screening, a new replacement for aluminum screening commonly used on windows and doors.
Engineered Yarns employs about 150 workers and was begun in 1949 as Chemo Products.
