Analysis of Lora’s Water Bottles Should Be Available Thursday

Results of a laboratory analysis of two water bottles and other paraphernalia, confiscated from the corner of the winner during a championship fight Monday night at the Forum, should be available Thursday.

That report came Tuesday from Marty Denkin, assistant executive officer for the California State Athletic Commission.

Denkin also said that the result of the World Boxing Council bantamweight title bout--a unanimous decision for Miguel Lora of Colombia over Pomona’s Albert Davila--isn’t likely to be reversed.

“We think it’s a case of sugar or some kind of sweetener, not stimulants or narcotics,” Denkin said. “WBC and California rules state that only plain water may be drunk by a fighter during a fight. The subject was even covered in our rules meeting the night before the fight.

“If the lab tests show what we think they’ll show, that it’s a sugar-sweetener substance, Lora could be looking at a fine, suspension or reprimand, or all three,” Denkin said.
