Davila, Lora to Meet in WBC Fight at Forum

Pomona bantamweight Albert Davila will try to win the World Boxing Council’s championship for the third time when he meets Miguel Lora of Colombia tonight at the Forum. The card also features World Boxing Assn. lightweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez of Mexico.
Davila (55-9-1), who turns 34 Aug. 10, is meeting Lora (29-0) for the second time. Davila, currently the WBC’s No. 2-ranked bantamweight, lost a 12-round 1986 decision to him in Colombia. Lora, 26, has held the WBC bantamweight title since 1985 and tonight’s 12-rounder will be his seventh defense of the championship.
Chavez (57-0) appears in an over-the-weight, non-title 10-rounder against Yogi Buchanan (19-5-1) of Berkeley , Mo.
In a second 10-rounder, former World Boxing Assn. bantamweight champion Wilfredo Vasquez (32-6), rated No. 2 by the WBA, meets Paul Perez (47-1) of Mexico City, rated No. 3.
The first preliminary bout begins at 6:30 p.m.
