Folk singer Pete Seeger, New York City activist Al Sharpton and 10 others were released in Albany, N.Y., after spending a day in jail for disorderly conduct. They had been found guilty of blocking traffic in downtown Albany during an April 4 demonstration on behalf of Tawana Brawley, a black Wappingers Falls teen-ager who claims she was abducted and sexually assaulted by six white men last November. The protesters were sentenced to 15 days in jail. Two others were acquitted after a three-day, non-jury trial. “I wanted to express my unity with people I considered my brothers and sisters,” Seeger said.
