The British Embassy in Angola has given refuge to a woman who reportedly was detained for nearly two years by the African National Congress, according to a Foreign Office spokesman in London. The British government was trying to obtain an exit visa for Olivia Forsyth, 27, who reportedly has dual South African-British citizenship, the spokesman added. “She has sought refuge there (in the embassy in the Angolan capital of Luanda), having been detained against her will by the ANC for 22 months,” the spokesman said. Forsyth reportedly had close ties to black opposition groups in South Africa, and one report said that she was held at an ANC prison in southern Angola after being accused of spying for Pretoria.
