Local News in Brief : Dentist Gets Probation

A Vernon dentist convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of a child patient was sentenced Friday to three years’ probation, while her nurse received the same sentence plus 120 days in jail.

Superior Court Judge James Nelson imposed the sentences on Dr. Jacquelyn Williams, 33, and her nurse, Christine Lee, 41, in connection with the 1984 death of 3-year-old Johnny Gray, court officials said.

In addition, Williams was fined $1,750, while Lee was fined $1,000, and both women were ordered to a pay an additional $1,000 each to a victims’ restitution fund. Williams was also ordered to contribute 400 hours of work to community service.

A jury deliberated two days before convicting the pair of one count of involuntary manslaughter on April 25. The child never regained consciousness and died one month after he went into a coma while being treated on April 26, 1984, at the Dr. Beauchamp Western Dental Center at 4364 S. Central Ave., Deputy Dist. Atty. Robert Dawson said.
