Local News in Brief : Irvine : New Matriculation Plan at Irvine Valley College

Irvine Valley College will be implementing a new matriculation system this fall to give students a better chance to succeed at their studies.

Matriculation is a process of determining students’ basic academic skills. With the system, tests will be given to incoming students, and, based on the results, they will be directed to classes most appropriate for their skill levels. Each student’s progress will be monitored throughout the semester, and additional assistance will be offered as needed.

“Research completed statewide indicates that the matriculation process will most definitely help students succeed with their college work, enabling them to reach their educational goals,” said Jerald L. Rudmann, matriculation coordinator for the community college. “We are so confident that matriculation will be beneficial to students that we are encouraging even those students who may be exempt from the procedure to take advantage of it.
