A transient who was discovered beaten about the head and chest was removed from life support systems after being declared brain-dead at UCI Medical Center in Orange, police said.
Timothy Alan Cooley, 30, died at 5 p.m. Thursday from a brain hemorrhage caused by a blow to the head with a blunt object, police spokesman Maureen Thomas said Friday.
Cooley had moved to Santa Ana about five months ago from Union Grove, Ala., Thomas said.
He was discovered shortly after dawn Wednesday by a group of transients near a pile of lumber not far from the city’s old train station in the 1000 block of East 4th Street.
Police are investigating the death as a homicide, Thomas said. There are no suspects, she said.
