Studio City Scraps Out 4-2 Victory

Studio City took advantage of a handful of Arcadia mistakes to emerge with a 4-2 win Thursday in the first round of the Area 6 American Legion playoffs at Ralph Welch Park in Pomona.

Studio City grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Brad McGahan’s sacrifice fly and added three more runs in the fifth on just one hit.

Peter Ortiz walked to open the fifth and errors on consecutive sacrifice bunts by Joe Contreraz and David Hinojosa loaded the bases. Tom Ball drove in Ortiz with a deep fly out to right field and, after Eric Garcia walked, McGahan singled home a run and Don Kelly drove in the final run with a sacrifice fly.

Ball, McGahan and Contreraz picked up Studio City’s only hits.

Studio City (21-10) advances to a 4 p.m. game today against the winner of Thursday night’s game between Claremont and Camarillo. Arcadia (18-10) plays Van Nuys-Notre Dame in an elimination game today at 12:30 p.m.
