$300,000 Stolen in Armored Car Heist

Associated Press

Two gunmen pistol-whipped a guard as they robbed an armored car of more than $300,000 as it delivered cash Thursday to a Wells Fargo bank branch.

FBI spokesman Tom Griffin said the gunmen approached the Loomis armored truck and fired a shot to divert the occupants’ attention. At one point, one of the bandits assaulted one of the guards, who was hospitalized and is reported in good condition, Griffin said.

Daryl Balko, region manager for Loomis Armored Inc., said the guard is “quite all right.”

Griffin said “more than one shot” was fired during the holdup, but he could not provide details.

Witnesses said the robbers wore hard hats, blond wigs and plastic face masks.
