Local News in Brief : Driver Seriously Hurt in Bulldozer Accident

A 28-year-old construction worker was critically injured Thursday when the bulldozer he was driving overturned and rolled down a hill near Westlake Village, pinning him under the vehicle, Los Angeles County fire officials said.

The man, who was not identified, was freed by firefighters and taken to Westlake Community Hospital by an emergency helicopter about an hour after the 11:40 a.m. accident, said Capt. William Baker, of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The victim suffered broken legs and severe head injuries, Baker said.

He was listed in critical condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Baker said the man was driving the bulldozer across a hillside near 31600 Lobo Canyon Road when it struck a rock, overturned and rolled about 200 feet down the hill. Firefighters took nearly an hour to free the victim from the bulldozer’s cab, he said.

Baker said the cab, a steel-roll cage, probably saved the driver’s life.
