Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : Transient Reportedly Killed Is on Life Support

An unidentified transient who reportedly died after he was beaten about the head and chest is in critical condition on a life support machine at UCI Medical Center, authorities said. Police are investigating the beating as an attempted murder.
The victim was found shortly after dawn Wednesday by a group of transients near a pile of lumber not far from the city’s old train station in the 1000 block of East 4th Street. He was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where a police spokeswoman said he was listed in critical condition Thursday night.
Police declined to release the victim’s name or details about his age or last known residence.
