The city’s dominant political group, Santa Monicans for Renters’ Rights, meets this weekend to choose its candidates for City Council elections in November.
The organization will hold its nominating convention Sunday at the McKinley School, 2401 Santa Monica Blvd., from 1 to 4 p.m.
Four seats on the council are up for election. Two incumbents, James Conn of Santa Monicans for Renters’ Rights, and Alan Katz, an independent, have announced they will not seek reelection.
City Councilman Dennis Zane, also of Santa Monicans for Renters’ Rights, is expected to be chosen to head the group’s slate.
Also running for reelection is councilman Herb Katz of the All Santa Monica Coalition.
