Burnham Sets Mark at Olympic Trials

Florence Griffith-Joyner wasn’t the only woman to set a record in the 100 meters at the U. S. Olympic Trials in Indianapolis.

Angela Burnham of Rio Mesa High established herself as the nation’s fastest 16-year-old ever when she ran an 11.28 in the second quarterfinal.

The time earned her only a fifth-place finish in the race, but put her in the record book.

The time bettered the previous age-16 best of 11.34, set by Sharon Ware of Berkeley High in 1980. It also moved Burnham to third on the all-time U. S. high school list.
